PS/2 and HID Compliant mouse both showing in Device Manager
(too old to reply)

Here's my issues (2 of them, they may be related, I am not
certain):
Windows2K Pro SP4
Microsoft Intellimouse Optical USB

1. The USB mouse works, but frequently will drop its
settings and move very s-l-o-w-l-y (with or without MS
Mouse software installed). Sometimes it will return to
normal, or how I have it set, and sometimes it will
onlyrecover with a reboot. Also, there have been times the
mouse freezes and I am unable to even end task or shutdown
normally. It does this even after a clean install of Win2K
and current Service Packs.

The second issue may be related:

2. In Device Manager, when veiwing Hidden Devices, I have
not only my HID-Compliant Mouse under Mouse devices, but
there is also a yellow-dotted "PS/2 Mouse". I am unable to
remove or successfully uninstall the PS/2 (and yes, there
is nothing connected back there). Also there are not any
settings I can find in the BIOS to disable the PS2 port
from being detected.

How can I get the PS2 successfully removed, and should the
HID Complaint Mouse drivers be changed to Microsoft USB
Intellimouse? What can I do to stop the mouse from losing
its settings?

Email replies welcome. Thank you.

Is this a Microsoft newsgroup where Microsoft techies help
out? Will I get a solution to my situation, or is there
another site to post for MS Techs to help?

i've been having the same problem. i left my ps2 mouse
plugged in cause the USB mouse freezes so much. my
solution is to unplug it and then plug it back in, but
sometimes it doesn't show up in control panel so i have to
reboot.

but lately, even weirder things will happen. it freezes,
and then the "add new hardware wizard" comes up saying
windows has located an unknown device. using the wizard,
it says it can't find a driver for the device.

other times in control panel, i have listed the ps2
mouse, an HID-mouse, and the intellimouse. if i delete the
intellimouse, all is fine, but if i delete the HID mouse,
then my intellimouse doesn't work. other times, i get the
HID mouse and another HID device listed under Human
interface Devices. it's like my system can't figure out
what is attached to it.

i hope someone will reply to this, cause i'd really like
to get it fixed. do USB mice break? could it be a USB port
problem?
