Dell 1503FP Monitor ...no sound

I have a compaq presario 5000 and just plugged in a dell
1503FD monitor.

I have tried most if not all of the trouble shooting
options, and have not been able to get the sound to work.

Any ideas????

If the Dell monitor has the speakers built in to it, have you also connected
the audio cables to the correct input(s) in the monitor?
